ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

CATHERINE LIU

Catherine Liu began her training at the Conservatory Ballet in Reston, Virginia under the artistic direction of Julia Cziller Redick. She has earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance Performance & Choreography and a minor in violin from Elon University. In the DC Metropolitan Area, Catherine has been a company member of Karen Reedy Dance, Sharna Fabiano Tango Company, and Sax Lounge Cabaret Dance Company. Since moving to the Bay, she has worked with Mid to West Dance Collective and Garrett & Moulton Productions, as a movement choir member, for several seasons. Currently, she is the artistic director of KWENTO, a resident creative member at PianoFight, and a free-lance choreographer for sketch comedy groups, Mission CTRL and Chardonnay. In 2017, her first dance theatre play, “Backstage,” was awarded 3rd place in ShortLived short play competition, and her co-direction in Lili Weckler’s “Dear Gloria” landed in 8th place in 2018. After her induction into the PianoFight family, she has wanted to gather the dance and theatre worlds together by fusing the two art forms in her work. Thus, KWENTO was born.
